Terms of use for Kalimo

These terms apply to the Kalimo iPhone app, offered by Malte Schiebelmann, Salzmannweg 12, 14469 Potsdam, Germany (legal notice). If the versions differ, the German version applies.

1. What Kalimo does

Kalimo uses artificial intelligence (AI) to make illustrated picture books starring your children, for reading together. The app is currently free. We may limit the number of books per day and change or discontinue features. There is no right to Kalimo being available at all times.

2. Made for grown-ups

Kalimo is for parents and other grown-ups who read to children. Settings and making books are protected by a grown-ups' gate. Children should use the app together with a grown-up.

3. Your details and ideas

  • Only enter details about children you are allowed to, for example as their parent. The same goes for siblings and friends.
  • Story ideas must not ask for unlawful, hurtful or unsuitable content for children, and must not infringe anyone's rights.
  • Kalimo checks every idea automatically before a story and may turn it down.
  • How we handle your data is in the privacy policy. The AI never gets your children's names.

4. AI-generated content

Text and pictures are made automatically. Kalimo checks them with further AI steps for age, fears and the chosen scariness level, but not every page is read by a person. A page may therefore not fit or contain mistakes. Please report such pages with the flag in the book; we look at every report.

5. Your books

The books are for your family. You may read them privately, print them, and give them to family and friends, also as a PDF. Commercial use, such as selling the books, is not allowed. We claim no rights in what you enter. We use your books only to run and improve Kalimo for you, as described in the privacy policy.

6. Liability

We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we are liable only for breaching essential obligations, that is obligations you may rely on being fulfilled, and limited to the foreseeable, typical damage.

7. Ending your account

You can stop using Kalimo at any time: in the grown-ups' area, "Delete account and all data" removes your account and all data, on the iPhone and on our server. If someone seriously breaches these terms, we may block the account.

8. Apple

Kalimo is downloaded from the App Store. Apple's standard licence agreement for apps (EULA) also applies. Apple is not responsible for Kalimo or its content.

9. Changes and law

If we change these terms, we tell you in the app. German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection rules of the country you live in remain unaffected.
